Hongdae Goshiwon vs. Studio Apartment, Which Is Better?

I am currently living in a goshiwon in Hongdae, but it is too cramped, so I am considering moving to a studio apartment. For those of you living alone, which was better, a studio apartment or a goshiwon? I heard there are places that allow you to split the security deposit; is that true?
